How the Mzansibet guide handles readers’ personal information

A reader may ask this site at any time what it holds about them, and the sections below begin with how to do that. The site publishes written pages only. It has no customer accounts, takes no payments and sees no betting activity, so the information involved is small.

1. Reader rights and how to use them

1.1 What may be requested

Under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA) a reader may ask whether the site holds information about them, obtain a copy, have inaccurate or excessive information corrected or deleted, and object to processing that rests on the editorial team’s legitimate interest.

1.2 How to ask

Requests go to [email protected] and describe the message or visit concerned, for example the date and the address used. The team may ask for confirmation that the request comes from the person it concerns. A reply follows within a reasonable period, and a refusal comes with written reasons.

1.3 Limits of a request

A request can be refused where the law requires the information to be kept, or where it cannot be linked to a person. Server records are linked to a network address only, so a request for them needs the address concerned and the time of the visit.

1.4 Escalation

If the reply does not resolve the matter, the reader may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.

2. What the site holds

2.2 What the site does not hold

No identity number, bank detail, cellphone number, password or betting history is requested. Please do not send any of these by email.

3. Conditions applied to the information

3.1 Accountability and purpose

The editorial team is the responsible party under POPIA. It decides why information is processed, and each item above is used only for the purpose shown against it. The team is separate from the operator of Mzansibet and cannot see any account there.

3.2 Lawful basis and consent

Delivering and securing a publication is a legitimate interest. Replying to a message is done at the sender’s request. Cookies that are not essential are set only after the reader accepts them.

3.3 Security safeguards

Mailbox and logs are protected by passwords, available to the editorial team alone, and pages are served over an encrypted connection.

3.4 Further disclosure and storage abroad

Hosting and analytics suppliers process information on the team’s instructions and may not use it for themselves. Where a supplier stores information outside South Africa, the team requires protection comparable to POPIA. Information is not sold and is handed to an authority only when the law requires it.

3.5 Openness and quality

This notice is the plain explanation of what happens to information, and it is kept current. The team corrects information that it learns to be wrong and does not keep it longer than its purpose requires.

4. Cookies

4.1 Essential and optional cookies

Essential cookies keep the site working and remember the cookie choice. Analytical cookies are optional; refusing them in the notice or in browser settings has no effect on what can be read.

4.2 Changing the choice

Cookie settings can be changed later through the cookie notice, and the site then stops setting analytical cookies. Browser settings can remove cookies already stored. Where a third-party analytics supplier is used, its cookie carries no name, email address or other information that identifies a reader to the team.

5. Readers under 18

5.1 Intended audience

The guide is meant for adults aged 18 and over.

5.2 Messages from minors

If the team learns that a message came from someone under 18, the team deletes it on request and does not use it for anything else.

6. Retention and deletion

6.1 Emails

An email is deleted when the matter is closed unless a correction record is needed, in which case only the minimum is kept.

6.2 Technical records

Technical records are removed or made anonymous after a short operational period.

6.3 Earlier deletion

On request, earlier deletion is carried out within a reasonable time.

7. Revision

7.1 Effective date

This notice took effect on 7 October 2026.

7.2 Later changes

When the notice changes in substance the date changes, and the current text governs every visit after that date.
